I didn't have a passport yesterday, but it turns out, I work within walking distance of the local passport office. A birth certificate, plane tickets to Bengaluru, a passport photo, and 24 hours later, I've got a passport. Passport in hand and $60 later, I've applied for an Indian Visa. Hopefully, that goes through quickly and by Monday or Tuesday, I shouldn't have anything in my way.
I also needed to update some vaccinations. Not fun. And getting them late means some of them won't be at maximum effectiveness for this trip in March. In fact, the Hep B and Hep A vaccines is multiple injections over the course of six months, so maybe for the next trip to India I'll be ready. And apparently, Malaria requires a pill you start taking just before the trip and take for 6 whole weeks.
I guess the moral of the story is if you set out to change your life, anticipate massive change. I'm not sure if a full round of vaccinations is called for, but at least get the passport ready.
