In my first year of learning and programming, it wasn't uncommon for me to start my day in the office at 8:00am writing code, and when I got off work at 5pm, to go home and sit at my computer until midnight before preparing for bed so that I could wake up and start all over again.
This was at a time when my child was 4 years old. To be clear, I made sure some of my projects were for her and that allowed me to spend time with my intended user. Not only did that give me valuable UX experience, but it gave me quality time with my kid.
One evening, my mom called to talk, and this 4-year-old child answered the phone. "Oh, daddy's doing his favorite thing ever....computer 'gramming." Yeah, Life will make reasonable requests of you. Requests you would have to be irresponsible to blow off. You have to figure out how to work it all in...or yeah...the dream dies.
